题目 | Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Drivers should pay a fee for driving in busy city streets when there is a greatest heavy traffic. |
参考范文 | Recently, driving cars has become a popular way for people to go to work and have trips, which cause heavy pressure on downtown roads. Paying money for heavy traffic is an ideal way to reduce the number of cars on certain roads, which contributes less traffic jam.
To begin with, extra cost would urge more drivers to choose other roads so as to ease burdens of main streets in the city center. Take my city as an example, there are thousands of vehicles waiting in endless lines on busy streets especially during the rush hour, for these roads are the shortest ways to arrive to destinations. That’s why so many drivers prefer to take the busy roads as the commuting routines. Unfortunately, the choice may cost even longer time because drivers have to wait in their cars patiently and drive meter by meter on the road. What a depressing moment! In such situation, my friend Jack always turns to roads beside the busy ones even though it may take him another hour to arrive at home in order to avoid waiting in lines. With such charging method, it can relieve traffic burdens on busy road that is helpful to improve the driving fluency.
Furthermore, paying for heavy traffic fee can result in the declining number of car driving and make drivers choose public transportation. Most drivers are unwilling to spend extra money for the short-distance commute because the overall price would be quite expensive if they pay the fee every day. As one of my teachers said, the money spent on freeways tolls was enough for him to take trains or planes. That’s why the extra fee can reduce the amount of traffic jam in a great deal and improve the frequency of public transportation means. Speaking of the public transportation means like subways and buses, they are also efficient to carry passengers to the places they want to go. As we all know, there are timetables for the public transportation. That’s why to a certain degree, public transportation is even more punctual than private vehicles.
Last but not least, the money collected by the fee can be used to relieve the traffic pressure. The government can use the fund to build elevated bridges, parking lots and so on. For instance, there is a newly-built elevated highway beside my living area that makes drivers commute faster than before. Since there are few traffic lights on the elevated bridges, drivers can no longer wait for a long time in lines and they can reach the destinations on time, which can improve the efficiency of commute. More parking lots can hold more cars in order to solve the parking issue which occurs for a long time. Built besides neighborhoods, parking lots can provide enough space for residents to park their cars after work, which bring a large amount of convenience for citizens.
Overall, I think it is a necessary and meaningful policy to charge extra fee for the heavy traffic in order to reduce the traffic burdens as well as solve more city issues. |
